january 27th

skull sweater - JCPenney | chambray button up - Old Navy | black skinny jeans - American Eagle Outfitters | utility jacket - Forever 21 | combat boots - Belk | feather necklace - Forever 21 | glasses - coastal.com

A kind-of preppy outfit. I layered a lightweight sweater with a collared shirt (it's obvious that I'm obsessed with collared shirts and sweaters, isn't it?), and threw on my favorite jacket right now from Forever 21. When I saw it on a mannequin, I knew I had to have it - unfortunately we couldn't find one anywhere else in store, so we took it off the mannequin. I've heard that Forever 21 employees get really irritated when you mess with the mannequins, but nobody saw...so that's okay, right?

Layering it up

sweater - Macy's | maroon chiffon button up - JCPenney | white cotton longsleeve shirt - Target | black skinny jeans - American Eagle Outfitters | Madden Girl combat boots - Belk | Peter Pan collar necklace - Forever 21

It was really, really cold when I wore this outfit. My sleeves look kind of funny because I'm wearing three shirts, but I wasn't going to sacrifice being warm. There aren't a lot of indoor places on campus to take photos where there isn't hideous, fluorescent lighting, but I tried anyway! I'm pretty sure my hands were about to fall off in the second picture.

I wore some of my favorite accessories with this outfit. This is one of my favorite necklaces. I love to wear it with sweaters or collared shirts - or both! It's a really easy way to make it look like you put in a lot of effort when you really didn't.

I also wore mismatched earrings. Everything except the pearl is from Claire's; the clock and key came in a set. I wouldn't recommend Claire's for anyone with sensitive ears - the quality of the metal isn't that great, and I can already see the wear on mine. Maybe it's just me, but I actually think Forever 21 earrings are of better quality, despite how the gold coloring tends to fade. Not to mention cheaper, too!

Loves: Ankle Boots & Booties

This past season, I discovered how wonderful ankle boots are. I'm kind of obsessed with them, as my Pinterest board and ShopStyle list would show you. They're cute, versatile, and they go with everything!
from Belk
I have a pair of these from Belk. I got them on Black Friday for (sigh) $30. Which is comparatively a good price, but right now, they're on sale for $17.25! They also come in black. I'll have to keep that in mind - don't buy things during Black Friday, wait until stores clear out for the next season!

Here's are some of my favorite ankle boots for under $100:

1 (Aldo) | 2 (Target) | 3 (Old Navy) | 4 (Sam Edelman) | 5 (Dolce Vita) | 6 (Chelsea Crew)

I'm a huge fan of #1 and #6 (I love oxfords), but I think Target and Old Navy did a great job with cute, affordable boots.

What are your favorites?

January 20th

floral top - Forever 21 (12)| burgundy skirt - Rue 21 (12) | sweater tights - Forever 21 (12) | combat boots - Belk (exact12) | necklace - Forever 21 | Michael Kors sunglasses - borrowed

Today was such a beautiful day! No classes, an iced caramel macchiato, short sleeves, and lounging on the steps of the library? I'll take it.

My favorite part of this outfit is the skirt, which I got yesterday! I don't wear them very often, but I love skirts so much. Even though it was 60 degrees, it was still a little chilly, so I wore my sweater tights again. The nice thing about my floral top is that it has a lot of colors, so I can wear it with different colored bottoms.

These boots are probably my favorite pair ever. I wear them all the time. You can never go wrong with combat boots, they match everything!

And a shoutout to my friend Michaela, who took these photos of me! (The sunglasses are also hers!)

Sweater Weather

sweater - JCPenney | olive pants - JCPenney | flats - Target | tights - Forever 21 | scarf - Michael's | gold leaf earrings - Target

When I go to class, I like to be comfortable. This is pretty much my go-to outfit when I'm running late - scarf, sweater, colored pants. I have a few choices to pick from, so I can really wear basically the same thing  for a week without it being obvious.

My favorite part of this outfit is the scarf, which I picked up from Michael's for only $4! During the Christmas season, Michael's stocks up on quick Christmas gifts, and there's normally a scarf collection. They start out at $14.99, but towards the end of the season they go on clearance. You never know what you'll find in a craft store!

Since it was a little chilly, I wore some sweater tights under my pants. I also really like the detailing on the back of my flats -

These were new flats, and I decided to try the hairdryer method to break them in. It definitely works, and it's blister free! Pinterest, you never fail me.

New York City

beanie - Charlotte Russe | scarf - Walmart | NYC muscle tank - Forever 21 | cardigan - Old Navy | black skinnies - American Eagle Outfitters | socks - Target | lace oxfords - Marshall's

As the name of my blog suggests, I am kind of crazy. In addition, I'm also incredibly awkward, as the photos show. My friend who took the pictures told me, "You're awkward, so exploit it! Then it won't be awkward!" Uh, well, did it work?

Anyway, it was a lazy day. I decided to wear one of my favorite shirts - a girly tank that says New York City, which I picked up at Forever 21 for only $6! The beanie was only $5 (gotta love Charlotte Russe's $5 deals), the scarf was $5, and the shoes were $23. (Is it weird that I remember the prices of almost every piece of clothing I own?) Overall, I'd say this outfit is made up of pretty thrifty finds. I'd been looking for affordable oxfords everywhere, and I'm glad I finally found a nice pair!

Brooklyn graphic tee - JCPenney | burgundy shorts - H&M | tights - closet find | belt - thrifted, Goodwill | cardigan - American Eagle Outfitters | socks - Target | shoes - Converse

The weather was so nice yesterday! Unfortunately I spent it in Starbucks doing homework, but hey, at least I got to wear shorts.

I decided it was a little too cold for just shorts, so I paired them with a pair of tights I found in my mom's closet and my favorite cardigan in the world, from AEO. Unfortunately, it's also my priciest cardigan, but I don't like to talk about that. I'm normally extremely frugal, but AEO is my weakness.

I picked up the belt at Goodwill, which was only $2 since I got it on the first Saturday of the month (50% off everything in store!). The Brooklyn graphic tee was a midnight Black Friday deal from JCPenney. Even though I'm normally not a fan of department stores, JCPenney definitely knows what's up. $4 for a men's shirt? Sounds good to me!

OOTD: First Day of School

jacket - closet find | scarf - Target | sweater - Macy's | plaid shirt - Old Navy | purse - Forever 21 | jeans - JCPenney | boots - Wet Seal | necklace - Wet Seal

This past Wednesday was the first day of the spring semester, so of course I had to dress for the occasion. I was feeling southern and preppy, hence the puffer jacket and layered flannel and sweater. I still haven't decided if I like puffer jackets yet, but I found it in my closet and it does its job, so why not?

An Introduction

"Our life is made up of time. Our days are measured in hours, our pay measured by those hours, our knowledge is measured by years. [...] And yet time eventually runs out and you wonder in your heart of hearts if those seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years and decades were being spent the best way they possibly could."
- Cecelia Ahern
Time doesn't stop, and there's nothing you can do to change that. No matter what happens, there is one thing that remains constant: the ticking of the clock. And, the harsh reality of it all is that you never know which tick will be your last.

In light of recent events, I've done something I've always wanted to do: start a blog. Because when my last tick of the clock arrives, I want to be able to say, "Yeah, I guess I've done everything I've ever wanted." Not that starting a blog is the only thing I've ever wanted in life, but I'm taking baby steps.

Despite everything that's already happened in 2014, I still believe that this is the year, my year, to start something. If this blog is the only thing I start, then that's okay, but I'm not going to wait around until I "have the time". As I've learned, time doesn't wait until you're ready. Time just keeps chugging along, regardless of what you decide to do with it.

It's the little things that count, right?

It's a working list, but like I said, baby steps. I can already check the first one off the list. I don't know where this blog will take me, or if it will even take me anywhere. But if there's anything I've learned since the new year, it's that I don't have time to waste, so I might as well try.

So, this year, do something. Learn how to knit. Reconnect with old friends. Join a club. Don't dwell on the past. Forget old grudges and bitter memories. Do something you've always wanted to do. If today is your last day, make it worthwhile. The Holstee Manifesto encompasses the gist of what I'm saying, but I'm not really that bold. That, and I also don't have a day job to quit.

Contrary to how serious this post is, I don't intend for it to be a look-into-my-soul kind of blog. I am actually really girly and like clothes and crafts and food, but I felt that this needed to be addressed.

Thanks for reading, and may 2014 be your year. Do something memorable.
